Doris Mae Steussy, 92, died Thursday, April 4, 2019, at Woodland Lodge in Fergus Falls, MN.
On November 4, 1926, Doris was born to Ralph and Eva (Bates) Butcher in Orwell Township, Otter Tail County, MN.
She graduated from the Fergus Falls High School in 1944, and started her career with Christopherson Engineering from 1944 to 1948. On November 4, 1945 she married Edwin (Bud) Steussy at the Grace United Methodist Church in Fergus Falls. While working as Manager of the Otter Tail Power Credit Union from 1965 to 1991, she got to know many people, retiring from there to enjoy her hobbies.
In the 1960’s, she drove 1950’s “flex” busses without power steering, and a daily route for the family owned Wadena-Wahpeton-Fergus Falls Bus Line, while raising five children. She sewed her children’s clothes, and gave them strong work ethic. Her children would wake her up when they got home in the evenings, and ask her to play the piano so they could sing. Music was a big part of her life. Known as “dancing grandma” to her grandchildren, she danced many years until her stamina gave out. Helping with various projects with her children, she did construction, painting, fencing, refinishing furniture, and many other things. Quilting, reading, cards, dominos, crossword puzzles, gardening, and being with family were her passions.
She lived in Fergus Falls her entire life. As an active member of the Grace United Methodist Church in her earlier years, she sang in the choir and the Schuman Club, later attending Immanuel Lutheran Church, then joining Hope Evangelical Lutheran Church to be with her daughter and son-in-law. She always had a strong faith with the Lord.
Doris is preceded in death by her parents; infant brothers, Lloyd, Howard and Carroll Butcher; brother, Elmer Butcher; sister, LaVerne (Karl) Stephens and son-in-law, Everett Westby.
She is survived by her children, David (Rose) Steussy of Alexandria, Ann (Dale) Anderson of Cambridge, Ruth (Tony) Rondeau of Fergus Falls, Carole (Milo) Mugaas of Erhard and Steven (Coleen) Steussy of Farmington, AR; sister, Phyllis (Donald) Bice of Pharr, TX; grandchildren, Michael Steussy, Sheldon Steussy, Cindy Roos, Howard Shaw, Gary Shaw, Teressa Schlieman, Audrey Anderson, Bobbi Jo Mugaas, Jessica Mugaas, and Cody Logan and 10 great-grandchildren.
