Doris Mae Rindahl, 91, of Sauk Centre, formerly of Underwood, MN died peacefully, Sunday, July 20, 2014, at CentraCare Health-Sauk Centre Nursing Home in Sauk Centre, MN.
She was born May 13, 1923, on a farm near Wendell, MN in Grant County to Arthur and Laura (Harris) Gustafson. She was baptized and confirmed at Aastad Lutheran Church in rural Fergus Falls and graduated from Elbow Lake High School. During her high school years, she worked part-time in private homes. After graduation, she worked at Nelson’s Café in Fergus Falls as a waitress and it was while working there that she met her future husband, Eddie Rindahl.
On May 23, 1943, she married Eddie at Aastad Lutheran Church. They moved to the Rindahl Farm in Sverdrup Township in rural Underwood where they raised their three children. Eddie and Doris enjoyed visiting with the neighbors and a lively game of whist or rummy. Doris was a member of the Mother’s Club at District 112. As a member of Rindal Lutheran Church , she served as a Sunday School teacher and was active in the women’s groups. In the late 1960s, she began working as an office manager at Falls Mobile Homes in Fergus Falls.
Doris was a member of Sverdrup Lutheran Church in Underwood and was a member of WELCA, various circles and the Quilters. Doris had several hobbies which included quilting, embroidering and baking.
Cooking was a full time job as there were often hired men as well as family to feed. She was known to have the coffee pot and some sweet treat ready for anyone who had something to deliver or to do on the farm as well as friends and neighbors stopping by to visit. Birthdays, holidays and special occasions would be hosted with a houseful of company and a favorite meal. She also enjoyed growing her flowers and saved them in the house during the winter to replant outside in the spring. She kept the farm yard clean and mowed singlehandedly from 1979 until she moved to Park Gardens in Fergus Falls in the fall of 2006.
Preceding her in death were her parents, her son, Robert in 1969; husband, Eddie in 1979; sisters, Adeline Knutson, Lenore Jerulle, Marian Shrum and Arlene Underwood and her brother, Adolph Gustafson.
