Doris M Langseth

April 16, 1931 — January 4, 2015

Doris Myrtle Langseth, 83, of Fergus Falls, died Sunday, January 4, 2015, at Sanford Hospital in Fargo.

Doris was born on April 16, 1931 in Fergus Falls, the daughter of Haldor and Beatrice (Bredeson) Sander. She grew up in Aurdal Township and attended school in Fergus Falls, graduating in 1949 from Fergus Falls High School.

On September 2, 1950 she married Albert Eckhardt. The couple lived on the Eckhardt farm in rural Fergus Falls, until they moved to Tacoma, WA and then to Mooreton, ND, where her husband managed the service station. As their children grew up, she worked as a nurse’s aide and then attended North Dakota State School of Science, obtaining her LPN license. She worked at St. Francis Hospital in Breckenridge until her retirement.

In September of 1997, she married Ervin Langseth at Mooreton Lutheran Church. The couple made their home on the Langseth farm in Aurdal Township.

She loved crafting and was known for her knitting and quilting, which she donated many pieces to the church and to people in need. Ervin and Doris were avid gardeners and loved to share their flowers and produce with countless people. They also shared a love to entertain in their barn, for reunions, church and community events. Doris was an active member of any community she lived in. During the years she lived in Mooreton, she was an active member of Mooreton Lutheran church, directed annual plays and enjoyed singing for weddings and funerals. After she married Ervin, she became an active member at Stavanger Lutheran Church. She also led occasional Sunday worship services at St. Francis Home in Breckenridge.

Preceding her in death were her parents; first husband, Albert; son, Rodney; siblings, Orville and Harold Sander, Bernice Mueller and Elaine Hanson.

Survivors include her husband, Ervin; children, Deb (Jerry) Eckhardt of Eugene, OR, Joyce (Doug) Caster of Eugene, OR, Paula (Karl) Meyer of Moorhead, MN, Tony Eckhardt of Houston, TX, and Doug Eckhardt of Eugene, OR; six grandchildren, Jeremy, Justin, Stacy, Rachel, Ethan, and Tristan; two great-grandchildren, Olivia and Isaac; two sisters, Lucille Langseth of Portland, OR, and Margaret (Art) Eckhardt of Fergus Falls. Also surviving are numerous nieces and nephews.

A special thanks to two fishermen, Stephen and Shawn Anderson, who at the time of Doris’ collapse, offered such kindness and assistance to her and Ervin while waiting for the ambulance.
