Doris Drayton

June 24, 1916 — April 25, 2012

Doris D. Drayton, 95, of Pelican Rapids, died Wednesday, April 25, 2012, at the Pelican Valley Nursing Home in Pelican Rapids. She was born June 24, 1916, in Lida Township of Otter Tail County, Minnesota, the daughter of Nanny and John Scott. Doris attended school in Lida Township. On November 15, 1941, she married Raymond Drayton. Doris resided in Lida Township until the loss of her husband in 1952, at which time she moved to Pelican Rapids where she raised her children. She retired from Pelican Valley Hospital in 1990. Doris was always ready for an adventurous trip with her children, grandchildren and friends. She visited Branson several times with friends. Her 80th birthday was celebrated snorkeling and parasailing in Mexico with her children and grandchildren. She hiked, went snow shoeing and cross country skied into her mid 80’s with her family. Doris loved the outdoors and Minnesota. She felt there was just no place better than Minnesota and particularly the Pelican Rapids area and Maplewood State Park. In her later years, Doris enjoyed embroidery, latch hook, and needle point as a relaxing past time. She also loved caring for her flowers. Preceding her in death were her parents, husband, three sisters, three brothers, and her daughter, Phyllis. Survivors include her sons Jim (Jody), Paul, and Gary (Patty), her grandchildren Troy (Sylvia), Amy (Jeremy), and Andrew, and her great-grandchildren, Mielyn and Keegan. A memorial and interment will be at a later date at Central Lutheran Church where Doris was a lifetime member. Olson Funeral Home in Fergus Falls is in charge of the arrangements.
