Donald J. Walls, 85, a resident of Underwood, died Thursday, April 16, 2015 at Our Home, Your Home Assisted Living Facility in Henning.
He was born July 10, 1929 in Hibbing, Minnesota, the son of Hubert and Mabel (Hatlestad) Walls. Donald attended Underwood High School, graduating in 1948.
Donald served in the Air Force as an air plane mechanic during the Korean War. He served there for three years.
On May 10, 1955, he was united in marriage to Laura Aanden at the Tingvold Lutheran Church in Underwood. They lived in Williston, ND, Kallispel, MT, Akely, MN, Kamiah, Idaho, Hibbing, MN and finally returned to Underwood, MN.
Donald worked for the Fergus Falls State Hospital and the State Highway Department for several years and also owned a sporting goods store in Colombia Falls, Montana. He built log homes and worked for the Forest Service in both Minnesota and Idaho.
He enjoyed anything involving the outdoors, including hunting, fishing, camping, traveling and loved dancing with Laura. Donald also enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.
Preceding him in death were his parents; his wife, Laura; and his brother, Gary.
Donald is survived by his children, Craig (Pat) Walls of Kamiah, Idaho, Carrie (Wayne) Jensen of Underwood, MN; grandchildren, Dustin, Mike and Tyler Walls, and Derek and Ryan Jensen; great-grandchildren, Kaelyn, Koten, Randi and Lexie; sister, Darlene (Tom) Fichtel of Annendale, MN.
A private family graveside service is scheduled for a later date.
