Donald Wahlgren

Donald Wahlgren, 91, of Fergus Falls, died on Thursday, May 18, 2023, at MN Veterans Home of Fergus Falls.

Donald Eugene Wahlgren was born December 20, 1931, to Albin and Johanna (Swenson) Wahlgren in Stanley, ND. In 1949 he graduated from Genora, ND, high school and in 1953 from North Dakota State University with a Chemical Technology Degree. Following college, Don moved to Elizabeth and farmed with his brother, Clifton, until joining the United States Army. He was stationed in Fort Bliss, TX. After discharge from the Army, he returned to Elizabeth and in 1960 began employment with the MN Highway Department until 1967. At that time, he began work as a civilian worker for the United States Department of Army at a propellant plant in Baraboo, WI, until 1974. He then transferred to Rock Island Arsenal, in Rock Island, IL, and was employed there until his retirement in 1992. He continued residing in Rock Island until April 2016 when he moved to the MN Veterans Home in Fergus Falls.

Donald was a member of the Elizabeth Town Board, American Legion, and Augustana Lutheran Church of Elizabeth. He enjoyed singing, high school, college, church and community, MN Veteran’s Choir, bowling and he also loved to fly his airplane.

Preceding him in death were his parents, Albin and Johanna Wahlgren; brothers, Morris (Ellen) and Clifton Wahlgren; sister, Alice Wahlgren.

Donald is survived by his brothers, Albin (Marilyn) Wahlgren of Pewaukee, WI, and Erwin (Marilyn) Wahlgren of Fargo; sister-in-law, Marlene Wahlgren of Fergus Falls, and several nieces and nephews.

Memorial Service: 2:00 p.m. Friday, June 2, 2023 at Augustana Lutheran Church, Elizabeth, MN, with visitation one-hour prior to the service at the church.

Interment: Augustana Lutheran Cemetery, Elizabeth, MN
