Donald V. Torgerson, 82, of Fergus Falls, formerly of Richville, died Friday, January 8, 2010, at Lake Region Hospital in Fergus Falls surrounded by his family. Don was born May 27, 1927, in Fergus Falls, Minnesota, the son of Victor and Agnes (Braaten) Torgerson. He was baptized and confirmed in the Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Fergus Falls. He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Richville. Following his education he enlisted in the U.S. Navy, serving from 1945 – 1948. He married Betty Aasen on February 26, 1952. He drove truck over the road for many years and was also employed periodically for Mark Sand and Gravel. In 1976 he quit trucking to farm with his wife, Betty, and son, Steve, until his retirement in 2000 when they moved to Dead Lake. In the summer of 2009 they moved to an apartment in Fergus Falls due to his health. He was a member of the Fergus Falls American Legion and the Eagles #2339. Don loved to sit on his deck watching the birds and just spending quiet time with Betty. Family and friends were always welcomed. He also loved to ride around in his golf cart with his passenger, Buddy. Donald is survived by Betty, his loving wife of 57 years, of Fergus Falls; sons, Gary (Janelle) Torgerson of Richville, Tom (Kareen) Torgerson of Oakdale, and Steve (Crysta) Torgerson of Richville; one daughter, Barb (Mike) Adams of Richville; 18 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; one sister, Marion (Duane) Donley of Richville; two brothers, Larry (Sandy) of Battle Lake, and James of Underwood; and one special black lab friend, Buddy. He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Linda; a son, Keven; and a brother, Eugene. Visitation: 4-7 p.m. Monday at the funeral home with a 6:30 p.m. prayer service, and resumes one hour prior to the service at the church.
