Donald C Stock

Donald C. Stock, 87, of Fergus Falls, died Saturday, September 30, 2023 at PioneerCare in Fergus Falls.

Don was born June 7, 1936 to Henry C. Jr. and Karen (Bertelsen) Stock in Maine Township of Otter Tail County MN. When Don was young, his family lived on several farms, finally settling in Orwell Twp. He graduated high school from WCSA Ag School in Morris, MN in the spring of 1954. At WCSA he was on the football team and was the captain of the wrestling team his senior year. He served in the Army from December 1954 to December 1956, including being stationed at Fort Carson, CO where he studied artillery (the big guns, he used to say) and in Okinawa, Japan with his cousin, Walter Stock.

He married Patricia Sha on August 19, 1962. They farmed in Orwell Twp until their retirement. Don was also a custom harvester for 30+ years, raised beef cattle and was a Dekalb seed dealer. He enjoyed meeting and working with fellow farmers of the Midwest. He and Pat were one of the first families in Otter Tail County to host agricultural trainees through the International Agricultural Exchange Association (IAEA), starting in 1980 and ending in 2002.

Don was a member of Living Faith Church since his marriage to Pat and served on church council and the Memorial Foundation for several different terms. He also served on the Orwell Township Board, and was a member of the Elks. He loved hunting deer, geese, pheasants and fishing.

In his retirement years he enjoyed making pens from wood and antlers, framing pictures, ice fishing, gardening, dancing and going to play bingo with his friend, Delores Friedrich.

Preceding him in death were his parents, his brother-in-law, Selvin Brenden and son-in-law, Paul VanWechel.

He is survived by his wife, Pat, and five children, JD (Pat) Stock of Ely MN, Jeff (Sonja) Stock of Onalaska WI, Jim Stock of Fergus Falls, Denise (Scott) DeMartelaere of Fergus Falls, and DeAnn VanWechel of Fergus Falls; grandchildren, Curt (Kay) Floberg, Tammy (Derek) Johnson, Nichole Barnes, Jeremy Floberg, Suzette Stock, Samantha (Jason) Little, Kristopher Stock, Amanda (Robert) Randall, Angel (Roger) Blevins, Joshua (Emily) Stock, Emma (Jordan) Rasmusson, Hana (Lucas Bakken-Heck) DeMartelaere, and Riley (fiancé Kassandora) Mollerud, numerous great grandchildren; three sisters, Margaret Brenden of Moorhead, MN, Arlene Dosdall of West Fargo, ND, and Natalie Stock of Zimmerman, MN as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Don’s family would like to thank the staff of the Senior Living Cottage on Cottage Drive, PioneerCare and Knute Nelson Hospice for the loving care he received this past year.

Memorials are preferred to Western Emmanuel Lutheran Cemetery, Western Township, MN.

Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Tuesday, October 3, with a 6:00 p.m. prayer service at Olson Funeral Home in Fergus Falls and continuing one hour prior to the funeral service at the church.
Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, October 4, at Living Faith Church in Fergus Falls.

Interment will be at Western Emmanuel Lutheran Cemetery in Western Township, MN.
