Donald W. Schroeder, 80, a resident of Fergus Falls, died Saturday, September 25, 2010, at his home under the care of his family and Lakeland Hospice. He was born December 31, 1929, to George H. and Ruth (Atkinson) Schroeder on the home farm north of Fergus Falls. He was baptized and confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church by Reverend Walter Friedrich. On October 6, 1951, he married Leona Grimstad in Underwood. The couple lived on his family farm where they raised their family and farmed. Don enjoyed farming and his horses, and collecting old tractors and horse machinery. He said he was fortunate as he lived in a good neighborhood. Preceding him in death were his parents; two brothers, John and Lawrence; a grandson, Chris Robert Schroeder; and a brother-in-law, Vernon Cooper. Survivors include his wife, Leona; two sons, Dana (Tammy) Schroeder, and Paul (Laurie) Schroeder; five grandchildren: John (Carmen) Schroeder, Sara (Matt) Kraft, and Matthew, David, and Emily Schroeder; two great-grandsons, Logan and Peyton Schroeder; a sister, Leona Cooper; four nieces and four nephews; and a sister-in-law, Jean Paler.
