Donald Joseph Ryan, 90, of Fergus Falls died on Wednesday, February 26, 2014 in Fergus Falls.
Donald is remembered as a kind and understanding person by all who met and knew him. He enjoyed traveling, woodworking, fishing and especially spending time with all of his family and friends.
He was born on March 10, 1923, in Minneapolis, MN, the son of William and Anna (Aune) Ryan. Donald moved to Fergus Falls at age five and became a lifelong resident. He graduated from Fergus Falls High School, where he was active in basketball, football and track.
He attended Concordia College in Moorhead, Minnesota, until called to active duty January 1943 for the United States Army. He was honorably discharged in March 1946.
After returning to Fergus Falls, he married his high school sweetheart, Loris Snowberg, on July 26, 1947 and worked for years locally in the construction business. Donald also served on the Fergus Falls city council and police commission.
Donald is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Loris (Snowberg); sister, Helen; grandchildren, Shannon and Andrew Hopper.
Donald is survived by his loving family; daughters, Virginia (Larry) Kibiloski of Payson, AZ, Amy (Scott) Hopper of Monticello, MN; son, Charles (Peggy) Ryan of Columbus, OH; grandsons, Matthew (Jescia) Hopper and Ryan Hopper.
Memorials are preferred to the Otter Tail County Humane Society.
A private service will be held at a later date.
