Donald LeRoy Malm, 79, a resident of Fergus Falls, died Monday, February 28, 2011, at Lake Region Healthcare in Fergus Falls. Don was born August 2, 1931 in Warren, Minnesota, the son of Victor and Ellen (Pearson) Malm. He graduated from Warren High School, attended the Minnesota Business College, and graduated from Gustavus Adolphus College. He began his career with the Internal Revenue Service and received the U.S. Treasury Department’s Albert Gallatin’s Award for dedicated and meritous service. Don retired after 33 years with the IRS. He received the 1990 Morton V. Bjorkquist Director of the Year Award for the Board of Social Ministry. From 1959 to 1968 he was treasurer of Augustana Church. He was President of Augustana Apartments for 35 years, and more recently was Treasurer for Cardinal Homes in Fergus Falls. He volunteered as treasurer of the board of managers for the Red River Valley Synod Institutions, Inc. After retirement, he formed his own accounting business and tax service, which he continued to the present day. Don is survived by his wife, Dorothy, of 53 years; three children: Kristin Lee Howell of Idaho Falls, ID, David Karl (Sue) Malm of Freeport, MN, and Rebecca Louise Malm of Cody, WY; six grandchildren: Chelsey Malm and Jessica Murlowski of Freeport, MN, Alexander Malm of Bozeman, MT, Rachel (Michael) Wade of Idaho Falls, ID, and Hannah and Sophia Howell of Medford, OR; two great-grandchildren: Ava Violet and Benjamin Michael Wade; a sister, Joyce Johnson of Mt. Olivet Nursing Home in Minneapolis; a nephew, Steven Johnson of Minneapolis; and good friend Brad Lofgreen. Memorials are preferred to the Augustana Church Foundation. Service: 11 A.M.
