Donald Raymond Holubok, 90, passed away Tuesday, March 16, 2021, at his home in Rothsay.
Donald was born December 12, 1930, to Russian Immigrants, Emil and Mary (Manshos) Holubok in Solen, ND. The family moved to a farmstead northeast of Kent, MN in 1936. After the passing of his father, Don took over the family farm while still in high school. He graduated from Breckenridge High School in 1950 and was a proud member of his class, enjoying the class reunions over the years.
He met the love of his life at the roller-skating rink in Wahpeton, ND. Don married Marlys Ruud on June 26, 1956, at St. Thomas Church in Kent. He was a Supervisor of the Manston Township Board for 27 years, secretary and treasurer for the Wilkin Co. Township Association, a member of Adult Education in Wilkin Co., a member of the St. Thomas Church Choir, 4-H Leader, school board member of his country school until its closing, member of the Wahpeton Fraternal Order of Eagles, and Fergus Falls Elks Club. Don was a steward of the land and an “engineer” of his own education and experience, as he created many solutions to farm and home projects. Even while a patient in the hospital during the past few months, he was still trying to figure out how to make things work better and more efficient in his hospital room.
Don is survived by his wife of 65 years, Marlys, of Rothsay; children, Valdean (Daryl) Olson of Maddock, ND, Shiela (Wayne) Merz of Rothsay, and Steven Holubok of Barnesville; fifteen grandchildren, Julie (Eric) Brandenburger, Ricky (Julie) Olthoff, Jocelyn Jameson, Jennifer (Brian) Ciesynski, Jesse (Kristin) Schake, Eric Olson, Jillisa (Tim) Schroeder, Kyle (Deanna) Olson, Bobby Button, Gregory Jr. (Alicia) Holubok, Sasha (Kenny) Riley, Michelle (Tyler) Volk, Rachel Olson, Carra Holubok, and Kara Holubok; 37 great-grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren; sister-in-law, Janet Ruud of West Fargo and numerous nieces and nephews.
