Donald "Don" Jack Eggen 84, of Fergus Falls, died Friday, February 7, 2025, at Lake Region Healthcare in Fergus Falls due to complications of Leukemia.
Don was born April 30,1940 in Fergus Falls. He was baptized and confirmed at Augustana Lutheran Church. He attended school in Fergus Falls then received his GED in 1999. On March 7,1959 Donald married Constance Joy Enderson at Augustana Church where they remained lifetime members. They had four children: Penny, Wendy, Troy and Tod.
Don's first job was delivering the Minneapolis Tribune at age 11. As a teenager he set pins at the bowling alley. He later worked at the Montana Flour Mill, National T Packing Plant and MidAm Dairy.
He began racing car #48 in 1959. He spent many hours working on his car with Troy and Tod right by his side growing their own lifelong passion for auto mechanics and racing. He owned and operated Wee Town Outlaw Speedway from 1976-1994.
He retired from the dairy at age 59 and his life became even busier. He spent much of each day outdoors. He actually enjoyed mowing grass and shoveling snow. He liked cutting wood and watering his tomatoes. He spent a lot of time scrapping and selling metals. He loved skating and played on ice hockey leagues for 40 years, retiring in 2018 due to a foot injury. Summers included BMX racing, where he was the oldest participant. He enjoyed sharing his BMX adventure with his great-grandson Justin.
He enjoyed reading and at one time had over 50 magazine subscriptions coming in the mail. Much to his wife's dismay, kept and stored them all. He collected books about local history, JFK assassination, UFOs and biographies too numerous to mention. He collected coins. He COLLECTED ANYTHING that might have a use in the future. He spent many years working on his genealogy. He was a member of the Senior Center and played whist religiously on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
Preceding him in death were wife Constance in December 2020, mother Mabel O. Eggen and father, Walter O. Ekness, brother-in-law Jerry Enderson, sisters-in-law Lois Lillemon and Sally Serrago.
Don is survived by children Penny (Brad) Baglo, Wendy (Roger) Schoon, Troy Eggen and Tod Eggen, all of Fergus Falls; grandchildren Stacy Schoon (Luke) and Jed (Amanda) Schoon; great-grandsons Justin Dorn, Liam Schoon and Beckam Schoon; sisters-in-law Patricia Norton, Nancy Adair and Doris Enderson, and his loyal dog/companion, Bella. He will be greatly missed by numerous nephews, nieces, extended family and friends.
