Donald E. Danner, 84, of Fergus Falls, died Wednesday, December 11, 2013, at Lake Region Healthcare in Fergus Falls, Minnesota.
He was born August 11, 1929, in Zimmerman, MN the son of William and Willamina (Schulte) Danner.
He served in the US Air Force during the Korean War in South Africa as a teletype and cryptographic operator, being discharged on September 11, 1954. He received the Occupation Medal (Germany), National Defense Service Medal and the Good Conduct Medal during his time of service.
He and Sally Louise Schultz were married for almost 40 years.
Most of his working life was spent working for Culligan Water Softening. He began with the company in the Anoka office, and continued his employment with them in Las Vegas, NV, Albuquerque, NM and Glendale, AZ. The moves were always for him to make losing propositions into prosperous winning stores. When the Arizona store was sold as a franchise he went to New Orleans for a short time to help a friend with their Culligan Store and then moved back to Arizona and was employed by the city of Glendale. He retired from that position and worked privately selling water softener units.
In the late 90s, he moved to Camino, CA, where he worked for the Mountain Democrat Newspaper. In August of 2007, he moved back to Minnesota to live with his daughter, Debra.
Donald was a lifetime member of the VFW and American Legion and also belonged to the DAV. As commander of the American Legion in Arizona, he helped it grow into one of the five largest Legion Clubs in America. He was also a member of the American Association of Water Works and the California Sheriffs Department. He was a dedicated hard worker in what ever he did. He enjoyed woodworking, gardening, bowling and darts.
Preceding him in death were his wife, Sally Louise; brothers, Harold, Leonard, Lester and Kenneth and sisters, Ella and Florence.
Survivors include his daughters, Debra (Dennis) Krueger of Holmes City, MN, Kate (Scott) Kindred of Arizona, Diane Danner of Nelson, MN and Kyra Kindred of Arizona; grandchildren, Jessica (Mike) Mueller, Brandon Krueger and Reanna (Jeremy) Lynnes; great-grandchildren, Graysen, Mikayla and Gabriel Mueller and Michael and Soulara Lynnes; a sister, June (Al) Carlson of Milaca; and many nieces and nephews.
