Don M. Harmon, 84, a resident of Fergus Falls, died Thursday, May 08, 2014 at PioneerCare in Fergus Falls.
He was born August 10, 1929 in Scobey, MT to Floyd and Rachel (Helton) Harmon Sorensen. He was baptized and confirmed in Scobey, MT. Don attended college at UND for a career in Electrical Engineering and graduated in 1967.
Don enlisted in the United States Army during the Korean War and served from 1951 to 1954.
He was married to Dolores Listoe in Crosby, ND and they moved to Grand Forks, ND in 1963. He and his family moved to Baltimore, MD in 1967. In 1968 Don joined Otter Tail Power Company in Fergus Falls. In 1971 they moved to Bemidji and in 1975 to Garrison, ND where he served as District Manager. In May of 1984 they returned to Fergus Falls where Don accepted the position as Telecommunications Manager. Dolores died September 8, 1986. Don was united in marriage to Vi Johnson in 1988 in Fergus Falls. Don retired from Otter Tail Power Company in 1991.
Don was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church, and active in VSP. He also was a member of VFW, American Legion and involved in many various organizations, memberships and clubs. He was also a proud volunteer, working on the Veteran’s Walk of Flags.
He enjoyed wood working, reading, dancing, boating, fishing and deer hunting. He also loved riding his motorcycle and traveling around the country in a 5th wheel. In his later years he enjoyed his weekly outings with friends. He especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Preceding him in death were his parents; two wives; brother, Ralph Harmon.
Don is survived by his three children, Linda Harmon Marvin of Brooklyn Park, Sandee (Keith) Muchow of Fergus Falls and Michael (Diane) Harmon of Rio Rancho, NM; grandchildren, Robert Marvin, Shellie Marvin, Shawna Berg, Kelly Muchow, Kevin Muchow, Shane Harmon, Kiffany Bruechert; and 14 great-grandchildren. Also surviving are step-children, Karen Schiedecker, Brad Johnson, Kyle Johnson and their families, along with numerous nieces, nephews and a special friend, Darlene Hoie.
Memorials are preferred to Lake Region Cancer Care and Research Center in Fergus Falls.
Visitation: 5-7 p.m. Monday, May 12, 2014 at Olson Funeral Home in Fergus Falls.
Service: 1 p.m. Tuesday, May 13, 2014 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Fergus Falls.
