Dolores Ida Saurer, age 93, of Fergus Falls, died Thursday, August 11, 2016, at Lake Region Healthcare in Fergus Falls.
Dolores was born on April 20, 1923, the only child, to Gustave and Ida (Baumgarten) Saurer in Fergus Falls. She attended school in Fergus Falls and graduated from Fergus Falls High School in 1941. After graduation, Dolores went to Dakota Business College in Fargo, ND, and was a bookkeeper for many years. She earned a BA from St. Cloud State and went on to earn her Masters in Social Work from the University of Nebraska.
Over the years, Dolores lived in St. Cloud, Sauk Center, Nebraska and finally moved back to Fergus Falls in 1965. She worked as a social worker and family therapist at the Fergus Falls Regional Treatment Center for over twenty years, retiring in 1987, as the Director of Social Services. After her retirement, she wrote a weekly “Senior Center News” column in the Daily Journal for over ten years.
In the spring of 2015, Dolores moved from her home in Fergus Falls, to the Mill Street Residence. She was an active member of Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church in Fergus Falls, where she was involved as a reader, Eucharistic Minister and also served on the Endowment Fund Committee for OLV Catholic School. Dolores enjoyed music, playing guitar and reading. She was very involved at the Senior Center, serving as Chairman of the Board for twelve years and was also the editor of “The Golden Page”, which was a collaboration of essays and poems. She was a dog lover and had many wonderful pets throughout her life. Dolores was President of the Board of Directors for the Otter Tail County Humane Society for many years and was also one of the first Stephen Ministers in Fergus Falls.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Gustave and Ida Saurer.
Dolores is survived by her special friends, Irlene Good and Phyllis Novak, both of Fergus Falls; along with many friends and extended family.
