Dohney Orris Anderson, 86, a resident of Fergus Falls, died Friday, July 25, 2008 at his home surrounded by his family under the care of Lakeland Hospice. Dohney was born on August 10, 1921 in Aurdal Township, the son of Elmer and Ruth (Hendrickson) Anderson. He grew up in Aurdal Township and attended country school District #66. In his youth he worked with his father as a water well driller. Before entering the military he worked in the Redwood Forest in California. On September 3, 1942, Dohney entered the United States Army. While in the service, he met the love of his life, Marie Roach from Haw River, NC. They met while Dohney was stationed at Camp Butler in North Carolina. He was honorably discharged from the military on March 15, 1946 and on August 12, 1946, he married Marie in Danville, Virginia. Following a short honeymoon, he started working as an independent contractor and continued in that field until 1973. In 1973, he started Ottertail Well Drilling. A few years later, his son, David joined him in the operation of the business. Dohney remained active in the decision making of the company, even when the physical work of the business became too taxing for him. David continues to operate Ottertail Well Drilling today. Dohney enjoyed spending time with his family, working, fishing, camping, watching wrestling and taking care of his home by the river. Preceding him in death were his parents, three sisters, Lillian Lillemoen, Helen Cummings, Darlene, who died in infancy; five brothers, Roy, Lyle, Keith, Russell and infant brother, Glen. Survivors include his wife, Marie of rural Fergus Falls; four children, Larry (Marcy) Anderson of Fergus Falls, Vicky Anderson (Brian Mensinger) of Fergus Falls, Terry (Jim) Vandenberg of Hinckley, David (Bethany) Anderson of Fergus Falls; 5 grandchildren, Michelle, Chas, Justin (Michelle), Jennifer, Dylan; 4 great-grandchildren, Lucy, Grace, Amber and Madison;brother, Lawrence (Lois) Anderson of Corcoran, MN; 4 sisters, Eunice (Ken) Wickland of Lakewood, CO, Barb (Don) Norgren of rural Fergus Falls, Doris Pavlacky of Watertown, SD and JoAnne (Perry) Orr of Underwood. Also surviving are numerous nieces and nephews. Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home and one hour prior to the service at the church.
