Dennis Thompson, 68, of Fergus Falls, died Wednesday, October 5, 2011, at his home. He was born on November 22, 1942, in Fergus Falls, Minnesota, the son of Guy and Alice (Thorson) Thompson and grew up on a farm in St. Olaf Township, rural Dalton. He attended rural school District 4, Morris Ag School and graduated from Ashby High School in 1960. Following high school, he worked on the farm for his brother, Duane. He also drove truck for Medallion Kitchens of Fergus Falls and married Leota Johnson. He later married Sharon Roberts and was the manager of a horse ranch in Ottertail, Minnesota. He then moved to Bucyrus, Kansas, where he also managed a horse ranch and married Mickey Calkins. On December 9, 1988, he married Patricia Janke in Stillwell, Kansas, and they moved to Fergus Falls shortly after. Dennis enjoyed auctions, assisting auctioneers in the Fergus Falls area. Most recently he and his wife, Patricia, were owners of Rainbow Kennels in rural Fergus Falls. He was a member of the Town and Country Saddle Club, the Eagles Club and Grace United Methodist Church, all of Fergus Falls. He enjoyed dancing, elk hunting, calling square dances, singing, playing whist and pool, working the fields with his draft horse team, and team penning. Preceding him in death were his parents; two brothers, Duane and Harley; a sister, Joan Evavold; brother-in-law, Harold Anderson; and a nephew, Michael Thompson. Survivors include his wife, Patricia; two daughters, Jane (Monte) Berg of Fergus Falls and her son, Rob, and Shana (Leigh) Barry of Fergus Falls and their children, Lauren, Cody and Kellan; two sons, Roger of St. Cloud and his son, Dalton, and Chad (Robin) of Overland Park, KS and their children, Makenzie, Keegan and Taylor; a stepdaughter, Jennifer (Scott) Sampson of Cary, IL, and their children, Matthew, Elizabeth, Benjamin and Amanda; a stepson, Jason (Kate) Janke of Cary, IL, and their children, James, Michael and Alexander; a brother, Jerry (Bev) Thompson of Fergus Falls; a sister, Vonnie Anderson of Dilworth; sisters-in-law, LaVay Thompson of Battle Lake and Marj Thompson of Ashby; brother-in-law, Norbert Evavold of Ashby; along with numerous nieces and nephews. Visitation: 5-7 pm Friday with a prayer service at 6:30 at the funeral home and one hour prior to the service at the church Service: 10:30 am Saturday, October 8, 2011 at Grace United Methodist Church, Fergus Falls Clergy: Reverend Robert Kandels Interment: Kvam Cemetery, rural Dalton Funeral Home: Olson Funeral Home, Fergus Falls
