Dennis Eugene Samuelson, 89, of Fergus Falls, died Saturday July 27, 2019 at Broen Memorial Home.
He was born and raised on the farm, May 22, 1930 to Lennerd and Josephine (Simonson) Samuelson in Eagle Lake Township. He later took over as a Fourth Generational farmer. At just seven years old, he was herding cattle to greener pastures. He loved farming more than life itself and took great pride in his work. He was just eleven years old when his brothers, Milo and Willmar, went off to fight in WWII; that is when his real farming days began.
On January 12, 1958 he married Norma Jelsing in Alexandria. The couple moved to the Samuelson family farm, which was Homesteaded in 1862, in Eagle Lake Township.
Dennis spent his lifetime farming and was a lifetime member of the National Farmers Organization. His dairy herd always received a Grade “A” rating. His farming included dairy and beef cattle, grain farming, and pig farming, which was always done in a meticulous way. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, baking bread and lefse with Norma, feeding wild birds and turkeys, and caring for many cats, which never left the farm when the cows did.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Lennerd and Josephine; his wife, Norma (Jelsing) Samuelson; siblings, Lela (Erving) Bothun, Milo Samuelson, Willmar Samuelson, Roy Samuelson, Glen Samuelson, and Leonard Samuelson.
Survivors include his children, DeeDee (Tim) Moore of Underwood and Stacy (Scott) Schauff of Battle Lake; grandchildren, Brittany (Eli) Pachel of Moorhead, Patrick (Jen) Moore of Eden Prairie, Megan (Ryan) Carlson of Fergus Falls, and Morgan Schauff of Fergus Falls; great-grandchildren, Jamison and Lyndee Pachel, Harper Hoffman, and Chloe and Maren Carlson; siblings, Ralph (Darlene Hopp) Samuelson and Carl Jr. (Joyce Hasse) Samuelson, along with numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
