Denise Busko

Denise Joy Busko, 67, of Fergus Falls, passed away Tuesday, October 3, 2023 at Sanford Roger Maris Cancer Center in Fargo after a long and courageous battle with bone marrow cancer.

Denise Joy Miller was born November 26, 1955 in Fergus Falls, MN to Doyle and Joyce (Underhill) Miller. She attended Battle Lake Country School, Dalton Elementary School, and graduated from Fergus Falls Senior High School, class of 1974.

On December 7, 1973 Denise married Jeffrey Busko at Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church in Fergus Falls. This December they would have been married 50 years.

Denise spent the majority of her life working in various healthcare positions. She started at Lake Region Hospital in 1990 and worked as a surgical tech until retirement in 2017.

She was a member of Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church and belonged to the Catholic Daughters of America.

She loved shopping and going to craft shows, doing jigsaw puzzles, baking for her husband and family, feeding and watching birds, planting flowers in her flower beds and she had a green thumb for houseplants. She was a lifelong fan of Elvis Presley music and had quite an Elvis memorabilia collection. She became a grandma in her early 40’s and had three grandsons, Kyler, Ethan, and Brady. She shared a birthday with her youngest grandson, Brady and loved to tell him he was her birthday present. Shortly before she retired, she was then blessed with two beautiful granddaughters, Brynlee and Baylee, they always made her smile and laugh. To top it all off she became a great-grandmother in 2021 to Mara. She loved going on pontoon rides with her children and grandchildren on Jewett Lake. She loved relaxing on the beach in Cancun and searching for seashells.

Preceding her in death were her parents, Doyle and Joyce Miller; her brother, Douglas Miller; her father-in-law, Harold Busko, and her brother-in-law, Logan Silha.

Denise is survived by her husband, Jeffrey Busko of Fergus Falls; her children, Jennifer (Timothy) Bigelow and John (Amy) Busko; her grandchildren, Kyler (Carlee) McKee, Ethan (Serena) Heinen, Corporal Brady Heinen, USMC, Brynlee Busko, and Baylee Busko; great-granddaughter, Mara Heinen; step-grandchildren, Jordan Bigelow, Christopher Bigelow, Elizabeth Bigelow, and Ella Bigelow; siblings, Janice Miller, Patricia Miller, Dwaine (Penny) Miller, Dwight (Sherrie) Miller, and sister-in-law, Becky Miller; mother-in-law, Geneva Busko; brothers and sisters-in-law, Teresa (Dave) Urlacher, Diana Silha, Jane Busko, Joanne (Jeff) Poehls, and Harold Jr. (Julie) Busko, and numerous nieces and nephews, and many, many friends she loved like family.

Memorials are preferred to American Cancer Society Hope Lodge 2500 University Ave SE Minneapolis, MN, or Roger Maris Cancer Center.

Visitation: 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Thursday, October 12, 2023 at Olson Funeral Home in Fergus Falls, with prayer service at 6:30 p.m. Visitation will resume one-hour prior to the service at the church.
Memorial Service: 11:00 a.m. Friday, October 13, 2023 at Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church in Fergus Falls.
