Denis Kroll

November 29, 1941 — September 22, 2009

Denis Kroll, 67, a resident of Fergus Falls, died Tuesday, September 22, 2009, at his home under the care of Lakeland Hospice. Denis was born on a farm near Royalton, MN. He was one of eleven children. From early childhood on, Denis was a naturalist. He often talked about taking care of the chickens and other fowl on the family farm. Throughout his life, Denis enjoyed birds and raised many caged birds, including a variety of finches and canaries. He had been a member of The Audubon Society and The North American Bluebird Society. He also had beautiful aquariums of fish, and a small jungle of house plants. His summer gardens produced an abundance of vegetables that he shared with neighbors and the local food shelf. He took great pleasure in his daily walks which he continued to do throughout his life. Denis was a student of humanities, religion, metaphysics, theosophy, philosophy and spirituality.  He was a member of The World Theosophical Society and The World Satya Sai Baba Organization. He made nine trips to India. Denis practiced Catholicism, but had a strong belief in accepting all religions. Denis had a MA in psychology and had acquired related licensures, including LADC (Licensed Alcohol and Drug Counselor) and CEAP (Certified Employee Assistance Professional). Much of his professional life was spent working with The Sand Creek Group out of Stillwater, MN, as a counselor in behavioral health. Denis enjoyed spending time with his son, Thad, and daughter, Tonya. He was very proud of his grandsons, Sam and Zak, and granddaughter, Alexandra. Denis had a special admiration for his mother, Loretta, who passed away in January of 2008, at the age of 99 years old. His life was enriched with the loving fellowship of his ten brothers and sisters, all who survive him: Don, Art, Joanie, Clete, Fred, Lou, Bob, Rosie, Bernie and Duane. Denis found fulfillment in the service of others. He was involved in charitable organizations that had a priority for the poor and disadvantaged. He believed in conservation and social justice. Denis was an independent thinker following his own path. It was guided by these simple principles:   “Love God, Serve God” and “Know That God Is All There Is”. A private family service was held.
