Delores Ann Thompson, 86, a resident of Elizabeth, died peacefully on Saturday, October 7, 2017, at her home in Elizabeth.
Delores was born to John and Caroline (Hiepler) Boehnke in Madison, on February 28, 1931. She attended District No. 82 Grade School and graduated from Bellingham High School in 1949. After graduation, Delores worked as a nurse’s aide in Appleton and Milan.
On December 30, 1950, Delores married Vernon J. Thompson at Trinity Lutheran Church in Madison. To this union they were blessed with three daughters: Barbara, Nancy and Ramona, twelve grandchildren and twenty-three great-grandchildren.
Vernon and Delores lived and farmed in Bellingham and also on their family farm in Milan. During the summer they enjoyed going to their lake home on Serpent Lake in Deerwood. While there they visited with Vern’s sisters, brother and their nieces and nephews who they loved dearly. Many games of cards were also enjoyed! After retirement, they moved to Elizabeth and spent their winters out west visiting family and friends.
She was a member of Augustana Lutheran Church and the Lions Club in Elizabeth. She was a life member of the D.A.V., the V.F.W. and a charter member of the Milan American Auxiliary and an associate member of the Big Bend Lutheran Church. She enjoyed teaching Sunday school and found great strength and comfort in her faith.
Her hobbies included playing cards, flower gardening, baking, sewing, crocheting and dancing especially the polka. Delores loved going to auctions and flea markets along with Vernon and then they would sell their “finds” at their antique shop. She also enjoyed fishing at their lake home which they owned for over 40 years.
Delores was remembered for her cooking and baking and her hospitality – the coffee was always on. And of course, card playing was a Thompson tradition and there was always time to play!
Survivors include her children, Barbara (Larry) Kranz of Appleton, Nancy Pierzina of Ortonville and Ramona Bevre of Elizabeth; her sister Lorraine Johnson; twelve grandchildren, Michelle Kranz, Steve (Lydia) Kranz, Cory (Melissa) Kranz, Todd (Tania) Kranz, Robert (Amy) Sletten, Timothy (Melissa) Sletten, Ashley Eastman, Destiny Eastman, Jason Gronewold, Michael Gronewold, Nathan Streed and Ryan Streed; twenty-three great grandchildren, nieces and nephews, cousins and many great friends.
Preceding her in death were her parents, an infant sister and her husband, Vernon in 2004.
