Delores Diana Davis, 72, a resident of Fergus Falls, passed away Sunday, June 7, 2009, at Lake Region Hospital in Fergus Falls. She was born January 19, 1937, in Oak Valley Township of Otter Tail County, Minnesota, the daughter of Keith and Beulah (McKellup) Davis. She was of Irish and English descent, and of the Protestant faith. Delores resided in her parental home until 1945 when she was placed at Faribault State Hospital. In 1958 she was transferred to Cambridge State Hospital, and in 1960 she was transferred to Brainerd State Hospital. On June 1, 1971, she was transferred to the Fergus Falls Regional Treatment Center. On April 1, 1999, Delores moved to the Prairie Community Services Briarwood Home in Fergus Falls. She resided there until due to failing health she moved to the Arlington Home on May 14, 2009. In April of 1999 Delores began attending day programming at Productive Alternatives in Fergus Falls. In January of 2001 she began attending the Willows, a non-vocational program operated by Productive Alternatives Inc. Even though Delores had many and severe limitations, she enjoyed being with and doing activities with her caregivers and peers at her home and at the day programs. She especially enjoyed her music, staff attention, organizing things, putting puzzles together, table activities, watching the Discovery channel, helping make a meal using her switch, getting her nails done, and having her back rubbed. Miss DD will truly be missed by her caregivers and friends. Preceding her in death were her father, on September 27, 1996, and her mother, Beulah, on September 1, 2004. Her siblings are Phyllis Trosen of Wadena, Lois Ostrander of Fridley, Keith Davis Jr. of Deer Creek, Charles Davis of Coon Rapids, Jack Davis of Stillwater, and Larry Davis of Oregon. There will be a memorial service at 10 a.m. Friday, June 12, 2009, at the Olson Funeral Home Chapel in Fergus Falls with Reverend Daniel Hacking officiating.
