Della Bernice Jacobson

Della Bernice Jacobson, 92, of Fergus Falls died Thursday, November 10, 2016, at the Broen Home in Fergus Falls.
Della was born on January 20, 1924 in Maplewood Township east of Pelican Rapids, MN to John E. and Amy (Peterson) Haugee. In April of 1925 she moved with her family to the community of Pelican Rapids where she grew up and attended school. As a girl, she baby sat and cleaned houses for neighbors as well as working at the downtown Ice Cream Shop for the Townsend family. Della graduated with the Pelican Rapids Class of 1942.
After graduation, she moved to Minneapolis to work and attended the North Central Bible College for a short time. Della moved back home and worked for nine years at the J. P. Wallace State Bank as well as training to become an LPN at the Pelican Valley Hospital. For a few years, she lived in Florida where she worked at the Hialeah-Miami Springs Bank.
She was a Charter Member of the Assembly of God Church in Pelican Rapids where she was active in the Sunday School and the Ladies Missions Group. For many years Della was involved the Christian Temperance Union and served as a leader of the Loyality Temperence League for young people.
On October 24, 1958, she married Peter O. Solum in Barnesville. The two would enjoy 35 years of marriage. While living there Della was involved with the Minn-Kota Chapter of the Red Cross where she organized a group of 42 young people from the High School to volunteer at the newly built Nursing Home. That group would become the ‘Candy Stripers’. For many years to come, Della would do weekly devotions at the Home. On December 14, 1999, she married Dayton Jacobson, he died in January of 2015.
She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Amy Haugee, her two husbands, Peter and Dayton, as well as two brothers, Roy and Morris Haugee.
