Dee Gust

September 22, 1929 — April 10, 2008

Delaine Ione "Dee" Gust, 78, a life long resident of Fergus Falls, died Thursday April 10, 2008, at her home, under the care of Lakeland Hospice, her family and friends. She was born September 22, 1929, in Fergus Falls, the daughter of Harry and Rose (Stende) Brevig. She grew up and attended school in Fergus Falls, graduating in 1947. She was employed at Fergus Falls National Bank following graduation. On September 8, 1951, she married Paul Gust, Jr. at First Lutheran Church, in Fergus Falls. The couple lived in Minneapolis while Paul completed his degree at the University of Minnesota. They returned to Fergus Falls after Paul's graduation, where they raised their four children and were active members of the community. Dee, along with her friend, Avis Dieseth, established Nordic Galleri, a Scandinavian gift store, in Fergus Falls in 1970. Dee was a member and past president of Mrs. Jaycees. She was an avid and enthusiastic supporter of the arts over the years, from dancing in the "Cardiac Capers", a fundraiser for the Cardiac Care Unit at Lake Region Hospital, to most recently being a devoted and active member at the Fergus Falls "A Center for the Arts". Dee was a member of the Pebble Lake Golf Club and immensely enjoyed and treasured her time playing the game. She served as secretary of the Ladies Golf League and was a member of the Gust Elevator Ladies team. Dee was a member of First Lutheran Church where she was active in various capacities, serving as a member of the Worship Committee, the decorating committee, and the Senior Choir in which she sang for over 30 years. Her style and beauty transformed all that she touched, from her family and nurtured friendships, to the lovely embellishments she created around her, to the well-tended blossoms in her garden. Preceding her in death were her husband, Paul, who died October 29, 2007; a son, David, who died August 16, 1975, and her parents.
