Deborah Gail Betterman, 66, a resident of Dent, died Tuesday, February 27, 2018, at her residence under the care of her loving family and LB Homes Lakeland Hospice.
She was born on August 1, 1951, in Fergus Falls, the daughter of Claber Oliver and Mildred (Leitch) Moen. Deborah was baptized and confirmed at Rindal Lutheran Church in rural Underwood.
Deborah attended Underwood High School, graduating in 1969.
On May 15, 1970, Deborah married Floyd (Al) Gaarsland in Sisseton, SD. Together they had two children, Lisa and Jamie.
On October 22, 1983, Deborah married Joseph Leon Betterman at the Anoka County Courthouse. Together they had a daughter, Leshel.
Deborah was employed by District 166 and Galaxy Resort where she worked in the kitchen and cleaned cabins.
Deborah enjoyed casino trips, playing cards, making potato dumplings, gossip magazines, “Days of Our Lives”, and the annual girls Maplewood outing. Most of all she enjoyed the time she spent with her grandchildren, and making sure that everyone had plenty to eat & drink.
Preceding her in death were her parents, Claber and Mildred; and brother-in-law, Donald Boese.
Survivors include her husband of 34 years, Joe Betterman of Dent; children, Lisa (Guy) Steiner of Big Lake, Jamie (Tara) Gaarsland of Dent, Leshel (Riley) Heaton of Pelican Rapids; five grandchildren, Jaeden and Taylor Gaarsland, Kiley, Jerrod, and Kara Heaton; siblings, Donna (Dennis) Johnson of Underwood, Darlene Boese of Albertville; as well as many nieces and nephews.
Visitation: One hour prior to the service at the funeral home
Service: 10:30 a.m. Saturday, March 3, 2018, at the Olson Funeral Home Chapel in Fergus Falls
