Dean N. Owen, 71, a resident of Fergus Falls, died Friday, November 5, 2010, at the Broen Memorial Home in Fergus Falls. He was born April 7, 1939, in Mankato, Minnesota, the son of Lyle and Orvilla (Norris) Owen. He was baptized and confirmed in the Congregational Church, and graduated from Pemberton High School in 1957. During his senior year his high school basketball team (of which he was one of the four Owen boys on the team) will be remembered as the smallest town to ever go to the state tournament. At the age of 15 he went to work for his father at Owen Oil Company in Pemberton, and over the years he worked at various jobs in southern Minnesota. In 1971 he moved to Fergus Falls to work for an older brother, who owned the cab company and senior citizen bus, plus Fire Safety Equipment Company. He later worked at the Fergus Falls State Hospital, and for 19 years at the Broen Memorial Home. Due to health problems he took an early retirement at the age of 57. On March 14, 1975, he married Darlene Lindstrom in Sisseton, South Dakota. Dean was a past member of the Fergus Falls Eagles Club and Elks Lodge. Preceding him in death were his parents, and a brother, David. Survivors include his wife, Darlene Owen of Fergus Falls; a son, Brian (Joni) Owen of Fergus Falls; four step-children: Tamarae Lindstrom of Foxhome, and Denise (Mike) Rehfeldt, Kevin (Kristy) Lindstrom, and Emily Orso, all of Fergus Falls; 14 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; a sister, Beverly (Duane) Engel of Janesville, MN; two brothers, Donald (Carol) Owen of Vesta, MN, and his twin brother, Dale (Shirl) of Atwater, MN; a sister-in-law, Shirley Owen of Mankato, MN; and special angel, Becky Weinreis.
