David Christenson

David L. Christenson, 72, a resident of Fergus Falls, died Saturday, December 26, 2009, at Lake Region Hospital. He was born June 15, 1937, in Doran, the son of Jeffry and Junith (Martinson) Christenson. Jeffry died in 1938 and Junith married Sigurd Christenson in March of 1942. Sigurd raised David, along with Junith, and treated him as his own. He was baptized and confirmed at Stiklestad Lutheran Church, and graduated from Campbell High School. On February 11, 1961, he married Sylvia Sampson at Bethel Lutheran Church, Fergus Falls. They lived and farmed in Bradford Township, rural Doran. In 1980, they moved to Fergus Falls where he was employed by Glenn Rogness trucking for ten years and then worked for Theile Technology until retiring in 2003. They moved to their current home on Wall Lake in 1989. His last years were spent helping with seasonal farming. David was a dual member of Calvary Free Lutheran Church and Stiklestad Lutheran Church, being active in many ministries over the years. He spent much time doing his many hobbies which included hunting, fishing, rebuilding the fish house, fixing things, softball and cheering for his grandchildren in their many activities. Grandpa would never hesitate to give his grandkids a ride on the pontoon, four wheeler or lawn tractor, start a campfire or bait a hook. Preceding him in death were his parents; his stepfather, Sigurd; a sister, Maxine Lee; a brother-in-law, Bob Vettrus, a nephew, Chuck Christenson and a great niece, Gracie Krogh. Survivors include his Wife, Sylvia; Children: Carrie (Charlie) Brue of Fergus Falls; Scott (Valerie) of Fergus Falls; Dawn (Jonas) Nelson of Minot, ND; Carla (Dave) Rudie of Willmar; Debi (Kevin) Foss of Bohemia, NY; and Brad (Paula) of Fergus Falls; Grandchildren: Titus, Calvin and Taylor Brue; Emily, Andrea and Jared Christenson; Alyssa, Kyle, Melanie and Thomas Nelson; Megan, Tara and Kayla Rudie; Jordan, Nicholas, Mackenzie and Madison Foss; and Andrew and Greta Christenson; Siblings: Joe (Sally), Jeffry II (Bette), and Sanford (Trina) all of Fergus Falls, Ruth Vettrus of Faribault, Paul (Mary), Mary Jo (Dave) Tonneson and Joel (Deb) all of Fergus Falls and Jerry (Charlene) of Park Rapids; a brother-in-law, Ken Lee, along with numerous nieces and nephews.
