Darwin Allen Dunbar, 81, a resident of Underwood, died Saturday, January 08, 2011 at Lake Region Hospital in Fergus Falls. Darwin was born on September 2, 1929, in Erhard, MN, the son of Crissie and Mildred (Moore) Dunbar. He grew up in Maplewood, where he attended country school. He farmed in the Maplewood area. He served in the United States Air Force from 1948 to 1952 in the Pacific as a mechanic. Upon his discharge from the Air Force he began a career in road construction, working for Ted Leitch and then Mark Sand and Gravel, where he retired. On August 5, 1960 he married Betty Johnson in South Dakota. Betty died on December 24, 1996. After his retirement he enjoyed fishing, gardening, and feeding and watching the birds. Preceding him in death were his parents; a sister, Leona (Andy) Gregga; two brothers: Delbert (Janet) Dunbar, and Leo (Marylee) Dunbar; and a brother-in-law, Jim Moinicken. Survivors include his daughter, Anita (Terry) Baker of Fergus Falls; son, Allen Dunbar of Fergus Falls; one step-grandson, Jeremy (Katie Olson) Neuleib of Brainerd; step-great-grandson, Giddeon Neuleib; two sisters, Agnes (Conrad) Moss of Minneapolis, Lavina Moinicken of Minneapolis and one brother, Earl (Chris) Dunbar of Minneapolis. Also surviving are numerous nieces and nephews. A visitation with family present will be held on Friday, January 14, 2011 from 5 to 7 p.m. at Olson Funeral Home. Burial will take place at Maplewood Presbyterian Cemetery, rural Pelican Rapids in the spring.
