Cynthia Fonken

Cynthia Ann Fonken, 62, a resident of Fergus Falls, died Monday, June 25, 2012, at Lake Region Healthcare in Fergus Falls. She was born September 5, 1949, in Pelican Rapids, Minnesota, the daughter of Orville and Hazel (Engelson) Randklev. She attended Fergus Falls High School. In 1966 she married Gordy Flink and they had two children: Bill Flink and Amy (Flink) Kester. She was married to Herb Olson in 1975. On July 21, 1989, she and Vance Fonken were married in Elbow Lake, Minnesota. They currently made their home in Fergus Falls. Over the years Cynthia was employed at Stop-n-Go, the Super 8 Motel, Big Chief Café, and Prairie Community Services. She and her husband Vance started a group home in their house for disabled adults. Cynthia loved cats with a passion, and enjoyed being with family, gardening and flowers. She was known for her goodies made at Christmas time, and her unique cooking. Preceding her in death were an infant son, William Gordon Flink II, her parents, a brother, Owen Randklev, and aunts and uncles. Survivors include her husband, Vance, of Fergus Falls; children: Bill Flink of Mobridge, SD, and Amy (Shawn) Kester of Fergus Falls; two grandsons: Patrick Kester and Justin Kester; four brothers: Gary (Kathy) Randklev of Barnesville, Dick (Judith) Randklev of Minot, ND, Tim (Mary) Randklev of Chaska, MN, and Tom (Alleen) Randklev of Arizona; and two sisters: Linda Randklev of North Dakota, and Suzie O’Meara of Arizona. There will be a memorial gathering from 5-7 p.m. Friday, June 29, 2012, at the funeral home with a 7 p.m. prayer service with Reverend Jon Olson officiating. Olson Funeral Home in Fergus Falls is in charge of the arrangements.
