Cora Kjer

Cora Kjer, 98, a resident of Fergus Falls, died Thursday, September 24, 2009, at the Pioneer Retirement Community in Fergus Falls.  Cora Olive Strandlien, was born June 8, 1911, in Clay County, rural Barnesville, the daughter of Christian and Olga (Brusven) Strandlien. She was confirmed at North Immanuel Lutheran Church, rural Pelican Rapids and attended country school in the Barnesville area. She met her future husband, Johnny Kjer, while caring for his mother. They were married May 12, 1930, in Moorhead. Together they raised four children. Cora worked at White Drug and was a waitress in a variety of places in Clay County.  She was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Fergus Falls and loved God and His son Jesus Christ. Cora loved flowers, and enjoyed bingo and traveling. Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, Johnny; a son, Jack; a daughter, Norma Ackert; two grandchildren, Tony and Cindy; two great-grandchildren, Christopher and Crystal; five brothers, Milford, Harry, Julian, Robert and Ernest Strandlien; and two sisters, Ruby Wahl and Helga Jorgensen; Survivors include her two sons, Harland “Dewey” (Sylvia) Kjer and Richard (Susan) Kjer; 16 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren. Memorials are preferred in lieu of flowers. Visitation: 2-4 p.m. Monday at the Pioneer Retirement Community in Fergus Falls with a prayer service at 4 p.m. and resumes one hour prior to the service at the church Service: 1 p.m. Tuesday, September 29, 2009 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Fergus Falls Clergy:  Reverend Paul Nelson and Chaplain Harry Olson Interment:  Hedemarken Lutheran Church Cemetery, rural Carlisle Funeral Home: Olson Funeral Home in Fergus Falls
