Clelene Joan (Connie) Bratten, 86, a resident of Fergus Falls, passed away on Thursday, January 11, 2018, at the Pioneer Home in Fergus Falls due to complications of the flu.
She was born on March 18, 1931, in Marshall County, Iowa, to Clell and Eleanor Hickman. In her teens, Connie was voted Miss Reinbeck, and in 1949 she graduated from Reinbeck High School in Reinbeck, IA. She married Bob Hite and raised 5 children, Dennis, Craig, Steve, Stan, and Kathy.
On March 24, 1974, Connie married Jerry Bratten. They moved to Battle Lake, MN after purchasing Holly’s Resort on Otter Tail Lake. They enjoyed meeting people and running the resort for 23 years. After retiring and selling the resort they moved to McAllen, TX and spent the winters there while travelling in the summer. Her favorite trip was pulling a fifth wheel trailer to Alaska. A few years later they bought a cabin on Marion Lake near Richville, MN and spent their summers there. They moved from McAllen to Georgetown, TX where Jerry passed away on December 28, 2013.
In April of 2014 Connie moved to Colorado Springs, CO to be close to her daughter, Kathy. In April 2017, she moved to Pioneer Point in Fergus Falls where she lived until her death.
Connie was a kind and loving wife, parent, grandparent, and friend. She was a sweet soul, always thankful, always grateful. She enjoyed travelling, playing golf and shooting pool and loved playing cards and games with family and friends.
Preceding her in death were her parents; husband, Jerry; son, Steve Hite; brothers, David Hickman and Stephen Hickman; and sister, Betty Turner.
Survivors include her sons, Dennis (Bettye) Hite, Craig Hite, and Stan Hite; daughter, Kathy (Steve) Hardyman; grandchildren, Michael, Hallie, Jessie, Josh, and Zach; nine great-grandchildren; her sister, Judy Warner; sisters-in-law, Jackie Schmid and Cassie Maddigan; and many nieces and nephews.
