Clarice Katherine (Spillum) Nye, 92, a resident of Fergus Falls, died Tuesday, June 12, 2007, at the Pioneer Retirement Community in Fergus Falls. She was born in Rollag, MN, on September 2, 1914, the daughter of Ole and Julia (Solum) Spillum. She grew up on a farm near Rollag and attended high school in Barnesville. On May 9, 1937, she married Warren Nye of Fergus Falls. They made Fergus Falls their home, where Mr. Nye was employed by Otter Tail Power Company. After his retirement in 1979, the Nyes spent winters in Lake Worth, Florida. She and her family enjoyed summers in Minnesota at Otter Tail Lake. Clarice was a loving wife to Warren and a wonderful mother to Stephen and James. In addition to her family, Clarice was very giving to her community. She was active at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, and volunteered at Lake Region Hospital. She also was a Cub Scout leader, and a volunteer for the United Way. She was a life member of the O.T.C. Historical Society. Socially, she enjoyed sewing and dance club. Preceding her in death were four brothers: Sylvester, Joseph, Nordahl, and Walter Spillum; and three sisters: Ruby Thrane, Esther Anderson, and Hazel Ellefson. She is survived by her loving husband, Warren; two sons: Stephen and his wife Barbara of Gilmer, Texas, and James of Houston, Texas; two grandchildren: Jenifer Trumler of Rockville, Nebraska, and Sunny Wooley of Pineville, Louisiana; four great-grandchildren; a sister, Gladys Golick; a brother, Floyd Spillum; many nieces and nephews; and several dear friends.
