Clarice Grina, 98, a resident of Fergus Falls, died Monday, February 12, 2018, at Pioneer Care in Fergus Falls.
She was born on June 15, 1919, to Gilbert and Minnie Martinson in Rothsay, MN. Clarice grew up in Rothsay and attended rural county school and was the oldest of seven children.
On November 30, 1941, she was united in marriage to Orris B. Grina at her family farm in Rothsay. They resided in Fergus Falls until 1950 when they moved to Rothsay, where they eventually owned and ran Grina-Our Own Hardware and Grina Funeral Home in Rothsay. After Orris passed away in 1975, Clarice continued to run Grina Funeral Home until 1997 when she sold it to Olson’s Funeral Home. She continued to work, helping out with funerals until 2005.
Clarice was a very active community member in Rothsay, including being a member of the Rothsay Community Board, Agassiz Study Club, as well as being involved with many activities at Hamar Lutheran Church. She was interested and active in promoting the city of Rothsay. Other previous life interests included gardening, traveling, visiting with others, and spending time with her family. Clarice especially loved watching the great-grandchildren grow up.
Preceding her in death were her husband, Orris Grina; parents, Gilbert and Minnie Martinson; three brothers, Chester, Oscar, and Charles Martinson; two sisters, Louella Bjorklund and Hazel Kaine.
Survivors include her two children, Phyllis (DuWayne) Balken of Rothsay, Bruce Grina of Deadwood, SD; three grandchildren, Robin (Steven) Lerbakken of Farmington, Darin (Renee) Balken of Montevideo, Troy (Sonja) Balken of Dilworth; six great-grandchildren, Justin Lerbakken, Tyler Lerbakken, Kara Balken, Erin Balken, Ellie Balken, Brenna Balken; one sister, Marcella Nettestad of Fergus Falls; and many nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
Visitation: 5-7 p.m. Thursday, February 15, 2018, with a 6:30 public prayer service, at New Life Lutheran Church in Rothsay, and resumes one hour prior to the service.
Service: 11 a.m. Friday, February 16, 2018, at New Life Lutheran Church, Rothsay
