Charlotte Vietta (Lind) Bakken, 87, a resident of Fergus Falls, died Tuesday, January 19, 2010, at the Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney, Nebraska. She was born January 24, 1922, in Bertha, Todd County, Minnesota, the daughter of Karl “Charlie” Mandus Lind and Annie Velermina (Swanson) Lind. She was baptized August 6, 1922 at Petri Lutheran Church in Eagle Bend, and confirmed June 27, 1937 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Clarissa. She attended country school in Germania Township, rural Bertha, and graduated in 1940 from Battle Lake High School. On June 16, 1942, she married Morris Irving Bakken at Petri Lutheran Church in Eagle Bend. Following their marriage they lived in Fergus Falls. Charlotte worked as a Nursing Assistant at Lake Region Hospital and later received her Psychiatric Technician Certificate and worked at the Fergus Falls State Hospital for over 30 years. She retired in April of 1985. She was an avid gardener and loved her home and family. Survivors include her three daughters, Beverly Ann (David Edward) Kramer of Moorhead, Minnesota, Linda Lou (Jon Francis) Peterka of Kearney, Nebraska, and Marcia Renee (Craig Jon) Anderson of Gold Canyon, Arizona. She was blessed with eight grandchildren and eighteen great-grandchildren: David Kenneth Kramer and his son David Alexander Kramer; Brian Craig (Katherine) Kramer and Nathan Joshua, Nicholas Edward, Andrew Steven and Landon David; Joshua Don (Molly) Kramer and Madeline Joan and Lillian Beverly; Daniel Jon Peterka; Karyn Jennifer (Christian Michael) Hilliard and Alexandra Marie, Zachary Cole, Noah Christian and Sophia Grace; Eric William (Melissa) Peterka and Jon Timothy and Anna Louise; Timothy John (Gwen) Peterka and Jared Austin Gafke, Justin Alexander Gafke, Elizabeth Grace and Emma Anne and Anne Marie Christine (David Edward) Stott and Nathan David; and many nieces and nephews. Preceding her in death were her parents, Karl in 1955 and Anna in 1967; her husband, Morris in 1975; a son, Cary Allan Bakken in 1945; a brother, Hilmer Lind in 1998; sisters, Lilly Lind in 1903, Lois Henry in 1986, and Esther Wallin in 2002; a grandson, David Kenneth Kramer in 2007; and great-grandsons, Nicholas Edward Kramer in 2006, and Andrew Steven Kramer in 2006.
