Carolyn Stabnow

Carolyn Stabnow, age 83, passed away August 5, 2024, at Sanford Hospice House surrounded by family. She was born August 31, 1940, in Atlanta, GA, to the late Charles and Leola Harris. Both of her parents were deaf; therefore, ASL sign language was her first language.

Carolyn married Curtis Vernon in Alabama and they had 3 children together; Pat, Tony and Liz. Carolyn married Leon Strand in Mississippi and they had 3 children together: Jerry, Foster and Gene. They moved to North Dakota where they operated a business together. Carolyn also worked for the West Fargo School District as an interpreter. She retired from the State of Minnesota where she worked as an interpreter for the deaf and hard of hearing. She married Roger Stabnow in 1989, and they lived in Rothsay, MN for many years. Carolyn loved quilting, fishing and baking. She made quilts for every family member that will be cherished.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Roger, in 2002; her parents; grandparents; son, Tony; and grandchildren, Justin and Jared Strand.

She is survived by her sister, Sue (Steve) Scott; children, Charles Patrick Strand, Elizabeth Winger, Jerry (Joan) Strand, Foster (Lori) Strand and Eugene (Linnea) Strand; grandchildren, Leah, Patrick and Camille; Elora, Erik, Keli and Melissa; Andrew; Emma, Abby and Claire; Cole, Olivia, Andrea, Michele, Austin and 17 great-grandchildren.

Funeral Service: 2:30 p.m., Friday, August 9, 2024 at New Life Lutheran Church, Rothsay, with visitation one hour prior to the service at the Church.

Interment: Hamar Cemetery, rural Rothsay, MN
