Carolyn Eggum

August 27, 1940 — September 6, 2024

Carolyn Lee Eggum of Mesquite, NV, formerly from Dalton, MN, passed away on Friday, September 6, 2024, at Essentia Hospital in Fargo, ND, surrounded by her family

Carolyn Eggum was born on August 27, 1940, in Fosston, MN. She was the daughter of Ernest and Cecile Johnson. She went to school in Dalton up through the eighth grade. She then attended Underwood High School and graduated in 1958. Carolyn went on to nurses training in Redwing, MN and graduated as an LPN in 1959.

On February 25, 1961, she married her high school sweetheart Truman Eggum. They lived in Minneapolis where Carolyn worked as an LPN at the Children’s Hospital. They eventually moved back to Dalton where they farmed for many years. Carolyn was a farm wife and mother to two daughters, Theresa and Tracy. In 1974 Carolyn re-entered the workforce. She was employed by the state of Minnesota at the Regional Treatment Center for the next 30 years.

Carolyn and Truman purchased a home in Mesquite, Nevada in 2008. Carolyn continued to spend her winters in Mesquite where she enjoyed her many good friends along with her great neighbors. She had frequent visitors from up North which included her daughters, sons-in-law and grandchildren. She enjoyed playing cards and other games with friends and family, a trait which we believe she acquired from her mother, Cecile. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were very special to her. Carolyn was fortunate to maintain good health and was able to attend all her grandchildren’s graduations and weddings, which she enjoyed to the fullest.

Carolyn was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Truman Eggum; and brother, Richard Johnson.

Survivors include her daughters, Theresa (Mac) Ketterling of Billings, MT and Tracy (Daniel) Hanson of Ashby, MN; her grandchildren, Chalsey (Adam) Barry, Brett (Brittany) Hanson, Drew (April) Hanson, Reed (Tiffani) Hanson, Adam (Morgan) Ketterling, Andrea (Curtis) Focht, and Abigail (Alex) Picicci; great-grandchildren, Kylie and Breck Barry, Charlie, Raelynn, Hudson, Brooks and Ellie Hanson, Layne Focht and Mia Picicci; sister, Kathy (Carl) Wangsness; brother, Dayle Johnson; several nieces and nephews; brothers and sisters-in-law, Jr and Beaty Matson, Pauline and Steve Torgrimson, Joani Eggum, Jack Langlie; special son, Donald Rocholl; and dear friends, Karen Walker and Lola Luedeke.

Blessed be the memory of Carolyn Eggum.
