Carol Joan Wester, 75, of Fergus Falls, died Thursday, March 3, 2016, at PioneerCare in Fergus Falls after a long journey with Parkinson’s Disease, as well as Progressive Supranuclear Palsy (PSP).
Carol was born in Brooklyn, NY, on December 30, 1940, to Carl and Lillie (Ness) Lundberg. In 1942, when she was just one and a half years old, she lost her father, who was a merchant marine, to a German U-Boat, in the Gulf of Mexico, on one of his voyages, transporting crude oil to New Jersey. She grew up in Brooklyn, NY, with her grandmother, Henny Ness, her mother and her brother, Harold “Skipper” and attended Zion Lutheran Church.
In 1958, she graduated from high school and entered the Methodist Hospital School of Nursing, where she made many lasting relationships and memories. She graduated in 1962, as a Registered Nurse and started her lifelong career of helping people. Carol loved nursing and worked in various hospitals, nursing homes, clinics, non-profit organizations and schools. Upon retiring, she became a Parish Nurse of Bethel Lutheran Church in Fergus Falls.
In 1971, Carol married Russell Wester. They began their marriage in Geneseo, NY, where they became Christians and then they moved to Princeton, NJ, where they became a part of the Lutheran Brethren Church. In 1998, they moved to Fergus Falls, MN, where she lived for the remainder of her life.
Throughout Carol’s life, she left a legacy of deep relationships, strong friendships and touched lives that will never be the same. We mourn in the fact that she is no longer here to share her love and wisdom, but rejoice in the knowledge that she is celebrating in Heaven where, as she always said, hope to “See you there.”
Carol was preceded in death by her parents; her grandparents; and one brother, Harold.
Carol is survived by her husband, Russell Wester of Fergus Falls; her children, Kari, Heidi and Doug and their families; and nine grandchildren. Also surviving is a sister-in-law, Lynn Lundberg and a niece, Kristen.
