Carol Kopperude, 84, formerly of Battle Lake, died Monday, May 19, 2014, at the Broen Memorial Home, Fergus Falls.
She was born November 9, 1929, in Minneapolis, the daughter of Walter and Marie (Trisko) Macy. She grew up in Minneapolis and graduated from Patrick Henry High School. She worked at a telephone company as a switchboard operator.
On August 19, 1950, she married Leland “Lee” Kopperude in Minneapolis. They made their home in the Minneapolis area until the early 1960s when they moved to Milaca, later Foreston, MN and then moving to rural Battle Lake to be with their son in 1998.
Carol was an artist who loved to paint, water colors, oils and acrylics. She also enjoyed flower gardening and cats.
Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, Lee, who died in 2013; a daughter, Linda Orth who died in 1988 and a sister Marilyn Hechtman.
Survivors include her son, Michael (Judith) Kopperude of Battle Lake; grandchildren, Mark (Lora) Orth, Catherine (Terry) Deshaw, Amy Kopperude and Matthew (Amber) Kopperude; great-grandchildren, Greta Kopperude Bailey, Josephine Kopperude Bailey, Jackson Dante Kopperude, Taylor Deshaw, Angel Orth, Annie Orth and Steven Orth; a son-in-law, Ron Orth of St. Cloud; two siblings, Sandra (Tom) Johnson of St. Stephen, and Walter (Judy) Macy of Minneapolis.
A memorial service will be held Thursday, May 29, 2014, at 12 noon, at St. Stephens Catholic Church, St. Stephen, MN, with Father Robert Harren officiating.
