Carol Jean Johnson, 66, of Fergus Falls, died Friday, February 5, 2016, at Sanford Health in Fargo, ND.
Carol was born on February 23, 1949, to George and Phyllis Beerman in Huron, SD. Carol attended school in Huron and Oldham, SD.
In 1975, she moved with her family to Camden, Maine and in September of 1975, she married the love of her life, Charles Johnson. Carol worked at the Camden Healthcare Center as a nursing assistant until 1987, when she then moved her family to Fergus Falls. Carol worked at the Fergus Falls Regional Treatment Center from 1990 to 1994. Carol’s husband, Charles, passed away on February 8, 1992. In 1994, Carol moved to Rockland, Maine, where she worked as a home health aide until 1998. In 1998, Carol began working for Nekton/Norhaven, later known as REM Inc., serving as a direct support professional for the developmentally disabled, in various group homes. Carol continued this line of work until she faced multiple health issues in 2004, at which time she was unable to work.
Carol enjoyed crocheting, quilting, needle point, acrylic painting, baking and reading a good book by her favorite author, Ann Rule. Many people will remember Carol for all the food she would make for family gatherings. Carol enjoyed time spent with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, George Beerman and Phyllis Bean; her husband, Charles; a step-son, Charles Johnson, Jr.; a brother-in-law, Raymond Johnson; a sister-in-law, MaryAnn Kriger; a daughter-in-law, Rose Marweg; a niece, Beverly Brumley; and a nephew, Robert Beerman.
Carol is survived by her children, Leon Hein of Fergus Falls, Nyla (David) Brevig of Elbow Lake, Craig (Carole) Johnson of St. Paul, Charles Hein of Fergus Falls and Phyllis (John) Jennings of Lake City; her stepsons, David Johnson of Red Lake and Brian Johnson of Duluth; 22 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Gail Hein of Brookings, SD, and Cindy Beerman of Rockland, ME; two brothers, Fred (Lori) Beerman of Camden, ME, and Frank Beerman of Rockland, ME; and numerous brothers and sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Visitation: One hour prior to the service at the Salvation Army
Service: 1:00 PM on Friday, February 12, 2016, at the Salvation Army Chapel in Fergus Falls
Clergy: Lt. Linda McCormick
Interment: Achorn Cemetery, Rockland, ME, at a later date
