Carlton “Bud” Norris Knutson, 86, a resident of Fergus Falls, died Tuesday, March 11, 2014, at Minnesota Veterans Home in Fergus Falls.
Bud was born November 18, 1927, in Pelican Rapids, Minnesota, the son of Clarence and Nellie (Simpson) Knutson. He grew up in Pelican Rapids and graduated from Pelican Rapids High School in 1945. After high school, Bud joined the United States Navy and served during WWII at Pacific Theater. Bud then attended North Dakota State School of Science.
On January 28, 1951, he was united in marriage to Darlyne (Velo) Knutson at South Immanuel Church in Rothsay.
Bud formed Knutson Heating and Air Conditioning in Pelican Rapids in 1951, moving the business to Fergus Falls in 1960. Bud also held several invention patents and was a member of the Inventor’s Congress of Minnesota. He later owned several companies and developed lakeshore properties.
He was past president of Fergus Falls Chamber of Commerce and was a member of First Lutheran Church Council for several years. Bud was past Exalted Ruler of the Elks and was also a member of the VFW, Masons and Shriners.
Bud enjoyed golfing, fishing and hunting. He especially loved spending time with friends and family at Jewett Lake and in Mesa, Arizona.
Preceding him in death were his parents, Clarence and Nellie; father and mother-in-law, Elmer and Gladys Velo.
Bud is survived by his wife, Darlyne of Fergus Falls; children, Cynthia (David Gudding) Knutson of Fargo, ND, Pamela (Joe) Gehlen of Plymouth, Renee Knutson of Madison, WI, David (Margaret) Knutson of Crystal, Bradley (Nancy) Knutson of Des Moines, IA, Steven (Jean) Knutson of Byron; 16 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; sister, Louise (Edward) Blank of Roslyn, SD. Bud is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Shriners Children’s Hospital, Alzheimer’s Association and Minnesota State Veterans Home in Fergus Falls, the Villages.
Visitation: 1-1/2 hour prior to the service at the church
