Carl Frank Murawski, 89, of Fergus Falls, formerly of Dalton, died Friday, June 30, 2017, at the Minnesota Veterans Home in Fergus Falls.
Carl was born on July 2, 1927 in Chicago, IL, the son of Anthony and Lillian “Lily” (Wilmowski) Murawski. He grew up in Chicago, IL, until 1945 when he moved to Paw Paw, MI.
He was drafted into the United State Army in 1945 and was medically discharged in June of 1946. Upon his honorable discharge from the military, he worked for a papermill in Kalamazoo, MI, from 1946 to 1950. In 1950 he moved to Gobles, MI, where he helped his parents and 3 brothers maintain a 700-acre farm and a large milking herd. His dad died in 1955 and Carl continued on the farm until the dairy enterprise was sold in 1971. Carl and his brothers then bought a tavern and restaurant in Gobles, MI, and he managed both businesses for 13 years. In 1987 Carl moved to Dalton, MN and worked part time at the Dalton Municipal Liquor Store, retiring in 1995. In 2009, he moved to Fergus Falls and in August of 2013 he became a resident of the Minnesota Veterans Home.
In 1972, he married Dorothy Hunter. Dorothy died in January of 1980 and on September 28, 1984 he married Lillian (Harlow) Breed. Lillian died in 1994.
In his spare time, he enjoyed woodworking and fishing. Carl belonged to the Knights of Columbus, Elks, Ashby-Dalton American Legion, where he served as the commander of the Dalton Post #508 from 1998-1999, and was a member of Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church in Fergus Falls since 1987.
Preceding him in death were his parents; both his wives, Dorothy and Lillian; five brothers, Edmond, Ernest, Anthony Jr., Richard and Clarence “Mike” Murawski; and his sister, Mildred Murawski.
Survivors include sister, Lillian Wheeler of Gobles, MI; step-daughter, Evelyn Klaassen of Gobles, MI along with several nieces and nephews.
Visitation: One hour prior to the service at the church.
Mass of Christian Burial: 11 a.m. Friday, July 7, 2017 at Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church, Fergus Falls.
