Carl Algot Johnson, 94, a resident of Fergus Falls, died Friday, July 20, 2012, at PioneerCare in Fergus Falls, Minnesota. He was born September 8, 1917, in Saunders County, Nebraska, the son of James and Addie J. (Swanson) Johnson. He was named after a survivor from the Titanic named Carl A. Johnson. Carl grew up in Nebraska, where he graduated from high school. The family moved to Minnesota during the depression. Carl was in the U.S. Army and Navy, serving in New Zealand during World War II. Upon his discharge he returned to Otter Tail County. On March 29, 1947, he married Clara Wold at Tingvold Lutheran Church, rural Underwood. The couple farmed in the Underwood and Battle Lake area before settling in Star Lake Township in 1960. He continued to farm there until selling the farm in August of 1999. He was a member of Tingvold Lutheran Church, and was a man of great faith. Carl enjoyed model trains, woodworking, meals at the Viking Café, and coffee with the “guys” at the mall. He was a huge Underwood Rockets fan, attending as many games as possible. Preceding him in death were his parents, his wife, Clara, who died in 1992, and siblings Gladys, Ivan, Robert, and Ester. Survivors include his children: Curtis (Carol) Johnson of Hailey, Idaho, Cathleen (David) Seidenstricker of White Bear Lake, and Carol (Michael) Westergard of Fergus Falls; five grandchildren: Amy Seidenstricker, Julie (Jared) Slater, Carolyn Johnson, Emily Westergard, and Collin Johnson; a great-granddaughter, Madeline Slater; two sisters-in-law: Doris Schoening, and Ellen Johnson; and numerous nieces and nephews. Visitation: 5-7 p.m. Monday at the funeral home with a 6:45 p.m. prayer service and resumes one hour prior to the service at the church.
