Calma Myrtle Brenden, 99, a resident of Fergus Falls, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, August 23, 2016, at PioneerCare in Fergus Falls.
Calma was born on June 11, 1917, on the family farm in Rothsay, the youngest of six children born to Martin and Clara (Paulson) Brenden. She was baptized and confirmed at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Rothsay. Calma lived and worked on the farm and attended country school at District 127 in Oscar Township, where she was an honor student. She also worked at Runnigen’s Café in Fergus Falls, the Powers Hotel in Fargo, ND, and as a nanny for a family in Fergus Falls.
Calma was very talented, with a natural ability for music. She played both the piano and the accordion. She loved painting, decorating, and coloring, a hobby she enjoyed her entire life. Calma had a special love for flowers and gardening. Her favorite season was spring, and she cherished the blossoms of the season. Although she never married, she was a great aunt to her nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her brothers, Arthur, Melvin (Elsie) and Oscar Brenden; her sisters, Cora (Charles) Bengtson and Mabel Brenden; and a nephew, Arnold (Olga) Bengtson; and nephews-in-law, Marvin Pederson and Norris Gilbertson.
Calma is survived by her nephews and nieces, Llewellyn (LaVerne) Bengtson, Merlin (Darlene) Bengston, Mel Jr. (Sally) Brenden, LaVonne Gilbertson and Delores Pederson; along with countless great nephews, nieces, and cousins.
The family would like to thank the staff at PioneerCare and Lakeland Hospice of Fergus Falls for their loving care for Calma.
In lieu of private memorials and flowers, memorials preferred to the New Life Lutheran Parish in Rothsay.
