Brian Alan Balken

Brian Alan Balken, 54, a resident of Fargo, formerly of Fergus Falls, passed away peacefully at his home on Monday, September 17, 2018.

He was born in Greenbush, MN on March 13, 1964, the son of Lynn and Sharon (Rolin) Balken. He attended Fergus Falls High School graduating in 1982. Following high school he attended Moorhead State University graduating with a B.S. in Finance. He moved to the Minneapolis area where he was employed with John Alden Insurance Company and then also Assurant Insurance Company as a claims adjustor.

He married Leslie Bjergo in 1996. The couple resided in Elk River, MN. He loved playing sports and excelled at most. He was an avid Minnesota Twins and Vikings fan. He had an amazing memory for just about everything and a knack for crossword puzzles. He had a great sense of humor and a sharp wit, whether you wanted to hear it or not, but was also a kind-hearted, gentle soul.

Brian is preceded in death by his parents, Sharon, who died in 1986 and Lynn, who died in 2016.

He is survived by his children Alex and Sadie of Elk River, MN, siblings, Kristi (Kerry) Larson of Hudson, WI, Lauri (Steve) Woodrich of Plymouth, MN, Brent Balken of Fargo, ND; Chris (Sara) Schultz of Fargo, ND, nieces and nephews; Reece, Chelsea, Haley, Andy, Isaac, Sophie and stepmother, Sue Balken of Fergus Falls, MN.

Please join us for a Celebration of Life Service at Olson Funeral Home, Fergus Falls, MN at 1:00 p.m., Monday, September 24, 2018. Visitation will begin one hour prior to the service. Burial will be held at Hamar Cemetery in Rothsay, MN.
