Borghild Walvatne, 93, a resident of the Broen Home in Fergus Falls, passed away on Sunday, January 4, 2015.
She was born April 6, 1921, in Underwood. She was one of two children born to Harold and Caroline (Tollefson) Nelson. She attended District 95 in rural Underwood and was confirmed at Tordenskjold Lutheran Church.
On November 8, 1949, she married Russell Walvatne at the Dalton Free Lutheran Parsonage. The couple farmed in Tordenskjold Township in rural Underwood.
She was a lifelong member of Tordenskjold Free Lutheran Church where she and Russell served as custodians for 20 years. Russell passed away on January 17, 1996.
Borghild taught Sunday School for several years and was an active member of the Tordenskjold Ladies Aid. She loved animals and enjoyed gardening, cooking, music and making afghans. She loved her family, but above all, she loved Jesus Christ as her personal Savior. She now resides in heaven with Him.
Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, Russell and brother, Norman.
Survivors include her son Jerold (Lori Knutson) of Bagley; daughter, Rebecca (David) Houge of Erhard; three grandchildren, Sarah (Jeremy) Stigen of Hawley, Lucinda (James) VerSteeg of Richfield, Beth (John) Krafthefer of Alexandria; six great-grandchildren, Sam and Elsa Stigen, Estée and Evie VerSteeg, William and Jack Krafthefer; one sister-in-law, Leanna Mavis of Fergus Falls; several nieces and nephews, as well as friends and neighbors; and the wonderful caring staff of the Broen Home.
