Betty Schroeder, 79, of rural Fergus Falls, died Thursday, June 13, 2019 at PioneerCare in Fergus Falls, MN.
Betty was born on New Year’s Eve in 1939, the daughter of Art and Ethel (Norgren) Fick of rural Rothsay, MN. She grew up on her family’s dairy farm in rural Elizabeth, MN. Betty was baptized and confirmed at St. John’s Lutheran Church of Elizabeth, MN. Betty was a 1957 graduate of Fergus Falls High School and went on to work at Otter Tail Power as a secretary.
On a Sunday afternoon, March 15, 1959, Betty married Allen Schroeder at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Elizabeth, MN. From then on, they resided on their family dairy farm north of Fergus Falls.
Betty was a lifelong homemaker and farm wife. She enjoyed hosting family gatherings at the farm and Jewett Lake. She was active in Immanuel Lutheran Church, participating in Ladies Aid and singing in the choir. She was also involved in the Fergus Falls 4-H Club, Homemakers Club and the Farm Wife Committee (now known as the Red Hat Ladies). Recently, Betty and Allen were on the founding committee for the Angel of Hope Park in Fergus Falls, a memorial for parents who have lost a child.
Betty loved going to her grandchildren’s activities, attending music programs, having a cup of coffee with friends, visiting on the telephone, and going through her recipe books for something to bake or cook as she was known to make a great pan of caramel rolls.
Preceding her in death were her parents; and her daughter and son-in-law, Nancy and John Tungseth.
Survivors include her husband of 60 years, Allen of Fergus Falls; children, Brenda Schroeder of Park River, ND, Scott (Joeline) Schroeder of Fergus Falls, Jana (Scott) Ripley of Montevideo, MN, James (Jessica) Schroeder of Parkers Prairie, MN and Ruby Tungseth of Fergus Falls; grandchildren, Jordan Schroeder, Danielle and Cody Call, Jacob Schroeder, Alexis Tungseth, Sam and Hope Ripley, Madeline, Brandon, and Grace Schroeder; sister, Doris (David) Holthusen of Becker, MN; brother-in-law, Roger (Margie) Schroeder of Corpus Christi, TX; an aunt, Luella Swenson of Fergus Falls, as well as nieces and nephews.
In Lieu of flowers memorials are preferred to Immanuel Lutheran Church.
Visitation: 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, June 19, 2019, with a public prayer service at 6:00 p.m. at the funeral home and will resume one hour prior to the service at the church
Service: 1:00 p.m. Thursday, June 20, 2019, at Immanuel Lutheran Church, rural Fergus Falls
