Bert W. Teal, 99, formerly of Fergus Falls, died Tuesday, October 9, 2007, at the Talahi Care Center in St. Cloud, Minnesota. He was born June 17, 1908, in Polk County, Euclid, Minnesota, the son of James and Ethel Teal. He grew up on the farm, attending school there. They moved to the Mentor area, purchasing a farm south of Mentor. He then left the farm, moving to International Falls where he worked in a saw mill, and then in the paper mill. He moved to North Dakota where he helped with the harvest. Upon his return to International Falls he worked at a kiln at the Insolite Mill. On May 20, 1934, he married Ruth Johnson in International Falls. They lived there a year before moving to Crookston. He worked as a route salesman for Bridgeman Russell Creamery. In 1940 he moved to Fergus Falls to manage the Russell Creamery business here. In 1943 he joined the U. S. Army. He completed basic training at Camp Roberts in California. He worked in the mail room and the PX in Hawaii, before shipping out to Okinawa and then Korea. He was discharged on December 18, 1945, returning to Fergus where he resumed his position with the Russell Creamery. He was a member of First Lutheran Church, the Masonic Lodge, the VFW, and the Birak Shrine Club. Bert enjoyed hunting and fishing. Preceding him in death were his wife, Ruth, on February 21, 1998; and siblings, Beatrice, Marland, Dave, Florence, Elsie and George. Survivors include numerous nieces and nephews.
