Bernice Morris, 99, formerly of Rothsay, died Sunday, March 15, 2009, at the Pioneer Retirement Community, Fergus Falls. She was born February 9, 1910, rural Goodrich, North Dakota, the daughter of Olaf and Lena (Larson) Sundlie. Bernice was baptized by Rev. J. G. Rugland of Robinson, ND and confirmed at Hamar Lutheran Church, Rothsay. She moved with her family to Rothsay when she was six years old, living with her grandpa Larson. On February 14, 1931, she married Alfred Morris, at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Fergus Falls. The couple resided with his parents on a farm in Manston Township, rural Rothsay, until 1935 when they moved into Rothsay where Alfred owned and operated the Dray Line. Bernice was employed at Shirley’s Cafe from 1960-1976. They both retired in 1976. Bernice was a member of Hamar Lutheran Church and it’s ladies aide as well as the Seniors Citizens of Rothsay. She enjoyed flower gardening, bird watching, quilting, dancing and music. Preceding her in death were her husband, Alfred, who died October 5, 1988; a son, Wayne, who died May 2, 1960; a brother, Oscar Sundlie and a sister, Esther Thompson. Survivors include several nieces, nephews and cousins.
