Barbara Hexum

Barbara Marie Hexum, 65, a resident of Fergus Falls, died Tuesday, February 15, 2011, at University of Minnesota – Fairview Hospital in Minneapolis. She was born September 18, 1945, in Fergus Falls, Minnesota, the daughter of Walter and Agnes (Peterson) Olson. She was baptized and confirmed at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Fergus Falls. She graduated from Fergus Falls High School in 1964, and then attended Moorhead State University, graduating in 1969. On December 28, 1968, she was married to Harold Hexum at Bethlehem Lutheran Church by Reverend Quello. She was employed as an Educational Consultant with the Minnesota Department of Education and Lakes Country Service Cooperative for over 25 years. Barbara was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church and PEO Chapter M of Fergus Falls. She enjoyed reading, cooking, gardening, spending time at the cabin on Otter Tail Lake, vacationing in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, and being with her six granddaughters. Preceding her in death were her parents, and aunts and uncles: Charles and Charlotte Peterson, Marion Peterson, Charles and Mildred Youel, George and Florence Martin, and Elene and Ray Stone. Survivors include her husband of 42 years, Harry, of Fergus Falls; her son, John (Missy) Hexum of Underwood; her daughter, Sarah (Chris) O’Kane of Alexandria; six granddaughters: Allison, Erin and Jordan O’Kane, and Lauren, Aubrey, and Hannah Hexum; her siblings: Mark (Renee Korda) Olson of Potomac, MD, Kathy (Curt) Thompson of Chicago, IL, Carolyn (Brent) Adams of Portland, OR, and Joel Olson of Richfield, MN; her aunt and uncles: Art Peterson of Barnesville, and Mabel (Loren) Braton of Pelican Rapids; and numerous in-laws, cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends. Visitation: 5-7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home with a 6:30 p.m. prayer service, and resumes one hour prior to the service at the church Memorial Service: 1 p.m. Friday, February 18, 2011, at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Fergus Falls Clergy: Reverend Kate Bruns and Reverend Paul Nelson There will be a private family interment Funeral Home: Olson Funeral Home in Fergus Falls Memorials are preferred to the donor’s choice.
